Wonkyung Chang

Wonkyung Chang, MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC, is a PhD candidate at the University of Rochester, where she focuses on understanding mental health disparities and substance use disorders among minority populations. Her research seeks to identify the underlying factors contributing to these disparities, with a particular emphasis on unhealthy alcohol use. Wonkyung’s goal is to improve mental health outcomes for marginalized communities through research and psychiatric care.

As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, she continues her clinical practice at a private practice in upstate New York. Before moving to the U.S., Wonkyung worked as a psychiatric nurse in an inpatient alcohol treatment center in South Korea, specializing in substance use care. Her clinical experiences, combined with her immigration journey, have shaped her research.

A dedicated member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA)and the Asian American Pacific Islander Nurses Association (AAPINA), she has presented her research at national conferences. Wonkyung’s doctoral research is funded by the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) Research Grant.
