R. John Repique

DNP, RN, NEA-BC

R. John Repique, DNP, RN, NEA-BC,  is an experienced nurse leader and health care executive with over two decades of combined clinical and progressive leadership accomplishments in various levels and aspects of behavioral health care delivery. Born and raised in the Philippines, Dr. Repique immigrated to the U.S. in 1992 and started his psychiatric nursing career at a state mental health hospital in Milledgeville, GA. Over the years, he has held a variety of nursing management and executive positions in several prominent private and public hospitals, mostly large academic and integrated health care systems in the East Coast. Through the National Advisory Committee, he hopes to contribute and help further strengthen the work of the Minority Fellowship Program by leveraging his unique perspective as an ethnic minority psychiatric-mental health nursing leader in executive practice.
 

A steadfast lifelong learner, Dr. Repique values the importance of ongoing professional development and knowledge dissemination in nursing through publications and various scholarly activities. From 2014-2017, he served on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association. During that time, he helped launched the journal’s Informatics Column and served as column editor. Currently, he serves on the editorial board of Holistic Nursing Practice, The Science of Health and Healing, and as manuscript reviewer for several academic and peer-reviewed psychiatric nursing journals. An active member of various professional organizations, he has served in numerous national steering committees and task forces aimed to advance psychiatric nursing practice and address contemporary nursing workforce issues such as workplace violence, inpatient staffing, technology use, and nurse fatigue. He is passionate about raising public awareness and giving voice to nursing on key mental health care and health policy issues through social media and opinion articles/editorial columns. Previously, he has also served on the executive committees and board of directors of community non-profits in Florida and Pennsylvania that advocated for systems of care transformation within the behavioral health and criminal justice systems, and the seamless delivery of integrated mental health and substance abuse services to vulnerable populations.

Dr. Repique obtained his B.S.N. from the University of Saint La Salle-Philippines; his M.S. in Psychiatric Nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore; and, his D.N.P. from Duke University. He is board-certified as advanced nurse executive by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. He is an active member of the American Nurses Association, the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the American Organization of Nurse Executives.
