Winnie Yip, MSN, PMHNP-BC, is currently in Year 3 of her PhD program at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN. Her research interests include social determinants of health, substance use disorder and trauma. Her dissertation will examine how healthcare providers' knowledge, attitudes, and practices influence the utilization of harm reduction services among people who use drugs during the ongoing opioid epidemic in the United States.

Since becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner in 2015, Ms. Yip has focused her practice on community health. Currently, she provides behavioral health care, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT), to individuals with mental health and substance use disorders at Community-University Health Care Center, Minnesota's first community health center.

Ms. Yip is a strong advocate for evidence-based interventions, harm reduction, and patient-centered care. Ms. Yip believes in fostering an inclusive environment where patients from all backgrounds receive care that is free from stigma. Her approach addresses immediate needs while acknowledging that recovery is a unique journey for everyone. In conjunction with her roles in clinical practice and research, Ms. Yip is committed to training the next generation of nurses. She currently serves as a preceptor for Doctor of Nursing Practice students. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Ms. Yip moved to the United States during her teen years. Her lived experience as an immigrant continues to inspire her advocacy for equitable care for all.
