Thomas C. Sargent, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, is an experienced psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner based in the Dallas, Texas area, currently enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program (DNP) at the University of Texas at Austin, with an expected completion date of May 2024. His scholarly focus includes cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and their application in acute care settings, aiming to improve care outcomes for diverse populations, including veterans and economically disadvantaged groups.
Mr. Thomas has presented his scholarly interests at conferences and has been an invited panelist on mental health and racial health disparities. In his professional role at a large county hospital, he focuses on comprehensive mental health care, especially for underserved populations. He serves on various committees at Parkland Health, such as the Advance Practice Advisory Council, Advanced Practice Provider Workplace Violence Committee, and the Inpatient Complex Case Committee, representing the behavioral health field. His upcoming quality improvement project will evaluate the Satori Alternatives for Managing Aggression, further improving patient care, and promoting safe work environments.
Mr. Thomas’ accomplishments in his career include membership in the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and recognition as a Veterans Affairs Nursing Academic Partnership in Graduate Education Scholar. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses Association, and the National Black Nurses Association.
