Suzette Lettsome, DNP, MS, RN, is a native Virgin Islander living in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Island (USVI). She obtained a bachelor of science of degree in nursing from the University of the Virgin Islands. She has been a RN for over 12 years and for ten of those years she has worked in community health clinics in the Virgin Islands. In December 2005 Ms. Lettsome obtained her Master of Science Degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Since 2007 she has been employed at the University of the Virgin Islands as an assistant professor in the BSN Program. She is a member of the Curriculum Committee and the Assistant Chair for the NLNAC Self Study for the BSN Program. She also serves as the Director of the Community/Engagement/Outreach Core for the Caribbean Exploratory Research Center, Division of Nursing, UVI. One of the projects of this Core involves an Assessment of Health Concerns of Adult males in the United States Virgin Islands. Ms. Lettsome is currently collecting data on a collaborative research study involving the Caribbean Exploratory Research Center and Case Western Reserve Francis Bolton School of Nursing. This study describes the health status and health practices of African American/Afro Caribbean Women 40 years and older.
As a doctoral student at Case Western Reserve University, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Ms. Lettsome's successfully defended her dissertation, "How Social Determinants Impact Depressive Symptoms In Afrom Caribbean Women Residing In The U.S.V.I." on November 5, 2018. Ms. Lettome’s hobbies include reading and traveling.
