Sarah Kuramoto

Sarah Kuramoto (she/her), BSN, RN, CARN (Certified Addictions Registered Nurse), is passionate about psychiatric and addiction medicine. Ms. Kuramoto is a third-year graduate student pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree at the University of Washington. 

She was born and raised in Japan's southern Kyushu area and moved to the United States as a college student. Using her bilingual proficiency in English and Japanese, Ms. Kuramoto’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project will focus on awareness of perinatal mental health in the Japanese immigrant community. Her clinical experience over the last eight years spans addiction recovery services with pregnant patients, acute care float pool work, inpatient psychiatry, urgent care, and community health, demonstrating her adaptability and commitment to diverse patient populations. 

Ms. Kuramoto is an active member of various professional organizations, including the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), the Association for Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurses (AAPPN), Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), and Japanese Advanced Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants of America (JAPNPAA). She is also a member of an organization advocating for the civil and human rights of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans and all communities affected by injustice and bigotry, the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL). She also actively engages in community outreach and mentorship to promote diversity and inclusion in nursing, such as speaking to high school students from minority and underrepresented communities at outreach events hosted by the University of Washington as a nurse mentor.
