MSN, RN , Masters (Alumni)
Perla Millan-Aguilar, MSN, RN, is a second-year Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) student at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. She expects to graduate in December 2021. After previously working in the pulmonary unit at Children’s Hospital Colorado, Mrs. Millan-Aguilar transitioned to the Pediatric Mental Health Institute. This department includes an inpatient psychiatric unit, eating disorder unit, and neuropsychiatric unit. She also works in pediatric home healthcare and as a Spanish interpreter throughout the Denver metropolitan area for mental health clinics, victim’s advocacy organizations, and schools.
Mrs. Millan-Aguilar’s current volunteer work includes Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA). CASA is a nonprofit organization of volunteers that represents the best interest of children in abuse and neglect cases. She was previously an intern at Good Health Will, a nonprofit organization that accepts donations of medical equipment and health-care supplies and provides them at no coast or at low cost to the community. This internship allowed Mrs. Millan-Aguilar to work with a variety of clients in the community, including victims of domestic violence, homeless populations, and people with substance use disorders. Her experiences have led her to understand the significance of mental health in every stage of life, and through life events.
She recognized that mental health and physical health are interconnected. Mrs. Millan-Aguilar‘s most profound goal is to empower and guide patients to gain the necessary skills to move from crisis to wellness, through safe and individualized care. Further, she is determined to reduce stigma by encouraging conversations about mental health, thereby embedding confidence to pursue treatment, specifically for those in rural communities and minority populations.
