Kelei Chatman, RN, BSN, a proud graduate of the University of Toledo, holds dual bachelor’s degrees in nursing and public health. Currently pursuing a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) degree at Mount Carmel College of Nursing, Kelei brings over eight years of diverse nursing experience, including roles as a travel nurse in critical care, operating room, and neuro intensive care.
Through these experiences, Kelei developed an awareness of the interconnection between mental health and quality of life, motivating her to pursue advanced practice in mental health care. An advocate for advancing mental health, Kelei extends her efforts and commitment beyond patient care to make a lasting impact on her community. As the secretary of the Columbus Urban League Young Professionals (CULYP), she leads community initiatives promoting mental health awareness, opioid overdose prevention, and Narcan training. Kelei, valuing networking, mentorship, and professional development, founded Heart 2 Heart Nursing LLC to mentor and empower the next generation of nursing professionals. Looking ahead, Kelei envisions her PMHNP role extending beyond clinical practice. She aims to foster partnerships with community organizations and fellow mental health professionals to create strong support networks that reduce stigma and increase access to mental health resources. Kelei’s long-term vision involves advocating for systemic changes in healthcare policy, serving as a representative for both patient and community needs in Columbus. She plans to collaborate with policymakers and community leaders to ensure equitable access to mental health care for minority populations, integrating mental health advocacy with broader social initiatives. Through her dedication to improving healthcare and mentoring future professionals, Kelei is committed to creating a more diverse, inclusive, and effective healthcare system that addresses the mental health needs of all communities.
