Juliana Estrada, MSN, RN, attended the University of Texas Health Science Center Cizik School of Nursing in Houston and is in her last year in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. She expects to graduate in December 2019. She is a UTHSC - SON PARTNERS scholarship recipient. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University in December of 2015.
Ms. Estrada’s nursing experience since 2008 includes employment in women's health, hospice care, and home health. Her psychiatric nursing career began in 2012 in an inpatient setting, caring for hospitalized children, adolescents, and adults. Between 2015 and 2018 she worked as a mobile crisis nurse and conducted home visits in order to evaluate the patients’ medical and psychiatric stability. Currently, she works as needed (PRN) at a local psychiatric emergency hospital, usually on the Crisis Stabilization Unit.
Ms. Estrada plans to implement her advanced practice role by focusing her attention on reducing mental health disparities for underserved populations. She aims to specialize in child advocacy and assisting LGBTQI youth, and young adults with mental health management. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Texas Nurses Association, and Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurses of Houston.
