Evana Yates, MSN, CNRN, SCRN, ACNP-BC, is pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She is interested in the neurobiology of mental disorders with a specific focus on suicide and the effects of trauma in the African American population. Her study will explore suicide risk assessment, the impact of childhood trauma and adverse childhood events on mental health and resiliency. Mrs. Yates has extensive nursing experience with more than 32 years in healthcare clinical practice.
Currently, she practices as an acute care neuroscience nurse practitioner at Tristar HCA Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN. She provides care for individuals experiencing traumatic brain injury, stroke, and other acute neurologic insults with neurobehavioral complications. She is uniquely aware of the interconnectedness of neurologic and psychiatric disorders while also having a lived experience as the daughter of a single mother who suffered with schizophrenia. She is enthusiastic about mentoring youth and the next generation of nurses. Her ultimate goal is to empower individuals to live vibrant and fulfilling lives.
In addition, Mrs. Yates conducts stroke seminars for medical professionals and community support groups for individuals suffering from traumatic brain injury and stroke. She is a 2023 SMART scholarship semi-finalist and a 2023 Psych Congress Ambassador.
Mrs. Yates is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Neurocritical Care society, Society of Critical Care Medicine, American Association of Neuroscience Nursing, American Academy of Neurology, American Epilepsy Society, Association of Neurovascular Clinicians, and Society of Hospital Medicine. She is active in the community and volunteers with Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, Red Cross, Jason Foundation and Churches of Christ Disaster Relief.
