Erica Joseph, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, NP-C, is currently enrolled in the PhD Nursing program at the Southern University & A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA for the 2019-20 academic year. Dr. Joseph’s phenomenon of interest is suicide prevention and examining the risk and protective factors of suicide among African American Veterans. As a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Family Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Joseph provides individualized case management services to Veterans with severe mental illnesses and their families in order to strengthen their functioning in community settings by improving health outcomes and reducing the need for reoccurrence of hospitalization visits.
Dr. Joseph was instrumental in the start of tobacco cessation classes at the Baton Rouge Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic which lead to her award as a 2014 Champion for Tobacco Cessation by the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA). She was also selected as the 2015 Advanced Practice Nurse of the Year by the Louisiana Nurses Foundation/Louisiana State Nurses Association and is the 2015 recipient of the Edith Lobue Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by the Baton Rouge Nurses Association. Dr. Joseph was selected as one of ten nurses to receive national honor as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and AARP, Culture of Health Breakthrough Nurse Leader. In September 2019, she was selected as a recipient to receive the Great 100 Nurses Louisiana Award.
Dr. Joseph is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and serves as the President of the Louisiana Chapter, the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the Louisiana State Nurses Association, Baton Rouge District Nurses Association, and National Black Nurses Association. She is a current member of the National Advisory Council for the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education.
