Brenda Shepherd, DNP, MSN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, is a graduate of Mississippi College BSN program and Alcorn State University’s MSN program. She is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner with the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Dr. Shepherd has worked the past seven years at the Jackson VA Medical Center, treating post combat veterans diagnosed with PTSD and psychiatric disorders, including substance abuse.

The focus of Dr. Shepherd’s research focuses on the positive correlation of veterans with mental illness and substance abuse that have a strong support system and/ or religious background in response to compliance and treatment.

She has proudly served in the United States Navy Reserve since 1999. The most meaningful time in service was her deployment to Landstuhl, Germany, as a mental health nurse caring for soldiers with mental health disorder serving in the combat zone.

Dr. Shepherd is a member of the American Nurses Association, Gerontological Advance Practice Nurse (Magnolia Chapter) and Sigma Theta Tau, International Nursing Honor Society.
