Jasmine Thomas

Jasmine Thomas, MSN, RN, is a second-year Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) student at Georgia Southern University School of Nursing, in Statesboro, GA. In 2016, she became a Registered Nurse (RN) after obtaining her Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) from Georgia State University, Perimeter College (GPC). She then earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) form Emory University. During her ADN studies, Ms. Thomas was selected to become a Bridges to Baccalaureate Scholar. This program was a partnership between GPC and Emory funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant to prepare nurses from underrepresented groups to earn bachelor’s degrees in nursing, with the additional goal of producing doctoral students for careers as health scientists/researchers.

As a scholar, Ms. Thomas was immersed into academic research and became a research assistant on a study focusing on pediatric oncology. As a nurse, she has delivered care to a culturally diverse range of people in areas such as medical-surgical, trauma, and emergency medicine. Currently, she works as a psychiatric nurse at an inpatient psychiatric hospital and an adolescent eating disorder residential facility in Atlanta, GA.

Prior to nursing, Ms. Thomas earned  a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biological Sciences, focused on pharmacy, from the University at Buffalo, in Buffalo, NY.
