Dr. Bienemy was the first graduate from the only PhD in nursing program in Louisiana at Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College in Baton Rouge in 2004. She defended her dissertation entitled “Chronic Stress Antecedents to Depression in Hypertensive African-American Women: Role of Social Support and Spiritual Well-Being”. Dr. Bienemy has been an active member of both the Louisiana State Nurses Association and the Baton Rouge District Nurses Association and was the 1995 recipient of the Baton Rouge District Nurses' Association Outstanding Professional Achievement in Nursing Award. She received her MSN from McNeese State University in Cardiovascular Adult Health Nursing. She began her tenure in nursing education in the School of Nursing at Southern University and A & M College where she has served as senior level coordinator, Interim Chair of the Undergraduate Nursing Program, and chair of the School of Nursing's Program Evaluation Committee.
Dr. Bienemy is actively involved in her community serving as speaker, moderator and coordinator of activities related to enhancing the cardiovascular health of African American women. She serves as coordinator of the Health Care Ministry at her church, which is located in an impoverished, African American, inner city community. The focus of Dr. Bienemy's research is to explore the role of spirituality as a barrier to stress reducing behaviors in elderly African American females who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure. Dr. Bienemy is married and has three children.
In 2018, Dr. Bienemy was inducted into the Louisiana State Nurses Association Hall of Fame. Dr. Bienemy is currently the president-elect of the National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers (FORUM) and the Louisiana Center for Nursing (LCN).
